Many who only sleep on their back, I have found with further questioning, do so because this is their “fall back position”. Other sleep positions are usually irritating or cause outright pain waking them from deep sleep. I have many customers and patients that could only sleep on there back because of shoulder pain. Now with awareness and use of my specially designed pillow many include at least one if not two other sleep positions. They also report they are sleeping much better.
In the development of this pillow and the concepts surrounding “The Ergonomics of Sleep” I realized that there are so many that can no longer sleep in all positions comfortably. Many of us are relegated to one or two positions and usually suffer if we move into others for very long. Some no longer sleep in various positions because pain disturbs and wakes them from deeper levels of sleep. We can then toss and turn throughout the night and our deep sleep suffers. When pain and irration in certain positions is an issue during sleep so many in my experiance choose to sleep on their back. This ultimate ”Fallback Position” is the only position left for many. In time chronic conditions like sleep apnea become more pronounanced due to this limitation, this fallback position, this back lying sleep position.
